Proper Nutrition

There are now over 30 years of strong research showing the value of proper nutrition and supplements in the treatment of severe eye disease. There are numerous vitamin products that are marketed to people with diseases such as Macular Degeneration (dry and wet), Retinitis Pigmentosa, Stargardt disease, Cone-Rod Dystrophy and related diseases. Most of these "Everything You Need in One Pill" products are Inadequate. They are actually worse than inadequate, for while you take them, thinking you are doing something good for your eyes, you are missing out on the opportunity to be taking the high quality products that might actually have some benefit for the health of your eyes.

You are what you eat

The scientific principle behind organic medicine is, simply put, that your nutrition speaks to your genes. That is to say, "you are what you eat."

Diet can affect your skin, your energy and the health of your kidneys, heart and brain. With a thoughtful diet focusing on the key elements of your digestion and how to best support them, you can make simple changes that create new healthy eating habits.

The level of nutrition needed when treating disease is often more than can be obtained from even the best diet. When nutritional supplements are required to correct nutritional and digestive problems, Dr. Miller is able to recommend products that are highly effective and very well-absorbed.

Organic vs. Non-organic diets

An organic lifestyle is more than just avoiding toxins. There is a greater level of nutrition in organic food than food grown by conventional agriculture methods. A past article in the Journal of Applied Nutrition gave credence to the notion that organic foods have higher nutrient levels than nonorganic food. In this study, the mineral content of organic apples, pears, potatoes, wheat and sweet corn were compared to commercial varieties. Overall, the organic foods showed much higher levels of nutrients and much lower levels of heavy metals.
